Week 1, Day 1: complete

I am going to try to run a 5k at the end of October. Today was pretty easy. Just the right amount of jogging/walking and my route was the perfect length. I even bought this nifty couch to 5k app for my ipod that tells me when to walk and when to jog. So no calculating on my part.

I purchased a double jogger last week, so now I have no excuses. Actually I better get some use out of it since it brought our stroller tally to a grand total of six. Yes I know that is a ridiculous amount of strollerage for only 2 children. I am hoping to sell at least one possibly 2 strollers. Anyone want to buy a singe jogging stroller? Funny rabbit trail. This weekend Andy and I were backing out of the garage to head to the mall shaking our heads and laughing in disbelief at the amount of strollers sitting in there. We get to the mall only to realize the only stroller we brought along was the rinky dink $2 umbrella stroller that we have to bend over to push since we are taller than average. The joke's on us I guess.

So back to the 5k business, I think my biggest challenge will be trying to run once the weather gets chilly. Hopefully I will have a good routine down before that happens. I have never been one to be able to talk while I am running, but I think my inquisitive parrot that NEVER stops talking will try to change that. He will talk and repeat and repeat and repeat the entire walk, I thought going on a walk was supposed to mellow a kid out and help him to chill a little. Of course he road his little bike over a mile this weekend and talked and whooped and hollered the entire time, until he pooped out, then Cade screamed for the second mile until he fell asleep as we approached the car, so no peace and quite on our walks.

That's my man....

...just another day on the job. Must tough driving something like a snazzy old corvette around for work. Don't tell the boss man, but he even swung by and gave me a ride. (Special thanks to a friend *Peter Marie* that happened to be around and watched the boys for me.)

That's my sexy man! I think he looks pretty good here :o)

disclaimer: in case said boss man or others in the work place thinking he is taking a joy ride, these pictures were snapped by a local corvette dealer. All work related. seriously.

Tamales

We spent the day at my Aunt's house making tamales. To be honest, I have never even had a tamale, so I didn't know what to expect, but it was fun, quite a process since we were all first timers, and it was fun spending time with my dad's three sisters. All around a great day!

Malcom or should I say Dewey

This episode never fails to crack me up. It pops into my head from time to time and is always good for a chuckle.
Lately as in the past 2 weeks Dane has and a line stuck in his head that he continues to sing over and over. As he is playing or wandering around he will pause and sing "I have hands..." and then continue playing occasionally he will sing "I have one foot" and then go about his business.

The song is supposed to be:

I have hands, watch me clap
Oh what a miracle am I

I have one foot,
watch me balance
Oh what a miracle am I

There are other verses but you get the idea. If you were to stop in and witness this, you would think I had a handicapped child that thinks it is so profound that he has hands or better yet one foot. Oh man this just makes me laugh every time he does it.

perfect weather

The last week has been great, great weather and all sorts of loveliness. I just want to soak up every last bit of summer that is left. We went to the Iowa State Fair on Monday. It just seems like the thing to do, though Andy and I really don't enjoy it as much as the average Iowan. The weather has been great for it this year, usually it is unbearably hot on top of walking around in dust and amongst stinky animals. Which I don't mind the farm thing, but for some reason it seems extra yucky at the fair. I think I figured it out though, I don't really start enjoying myself until the sun goes down meaning it cools off and the sweltering burning sun isn't beating down on me. I just really don't like being hot (or cold for that matter) then add walking around in crowds in the beating down hot sun, equals swimming sounds more fun. So check that off the list. State Fair-done.

We have been going on morning walks this week. Love it I finally feel and exercise groove coming on. Like maybe I am finally healed up from having a baby. It only took almost a year. We made a couple more visits to the splash park though it was almost chilly.

We have been enjoying the front porch and our new chairs. It's fun to sit out there and watch the neighborhood.

And today we went exploring the lake near our house. We checked out the covered bridge, and walked down some of the hiking trails near the lake. Definitly not a Colorado hike but it was still a ton of fun.

Where did it go?

A little brotherly love

Really?! Is it time for school to start again? Summer is NEVER long enough for me. I don't like the hot hot weather, but I love the summer nights, I love that it has cooled off, but I am not done with the splash park, and all the summer activities, not yet. And more than anything I am NOT done with the weather, and I never will be :o) I don't even have to worry about school yet and I am still sad that it is starting. I haven't even let my mind wander to the possibility of Dane starting I still have a few years left.

I am in this little blissful phase of my life where life is not governed by the schedules of school or work. Since I was the oldest in my family I had the first 5 years of my life with this experience and now, from when Dane was born until he starts school in 3 more years, I can enjoy it once again. Three more blissful years until we HAVE to get up and be somewhere every week day. Three more years (unless we do pre-school) of just doing our thing. These little babies have been driving me crazy today, but I am so glad I am not sending them off to school yet. I just hope I can look back and remember these days and remember that I thoroughly enjoyed them. Here's to not wishing life away to quickly. Praise God he has provided a way for me to stay home with my guys. And for all my wonderful friends that are sending their babies to school, I am praying for you and if you want to borrow a baby for a few hours...you know who to call :)
